Notes

MAC music is rooted in Cape Town :

Music of the mountain : Hoerikwaggo sea lion mountains of antiquity and enbodied dreams

Music of the carnival:
A natural carnival
A resurrection of the soul, a celebration 4 transformation.

Music of the Choirs of the Seven Seas:
A community tradition of choirs that reaches all ages and all areas in an evolving expansion of music built on a foundation of compositions.

Music of the Marching bands:
A self styled orchestral jazz that everybody with an instrument can play too. This music brings joy to the suburban homes.

Music of Jazz:
Built on the freedom of expression of a creole culture of a port city that was so exceptionally unique and creative that it inspired the improvised jazz movement of the world.

And from this magical melting point of culture comes Mac Mckenzie borne into a lineage of music. His father Mr. Mac was the Charlie Chaplin of Cape Town leading the Gympie Street Carnival Troupe ‘The Cornwalls’ to victory during the golden days of District Six.

Mac was always a bass guitar player and received a degree in stardom as the lead electric bassist for goema punk outfit The Genuines. It ended when he crashed the bands camper van into a Dyke in Amsterdam.

And with age has come much more. In the 90’s Mac picked up the guitar and began to re-master himself into a genuine Cape Town composer. Mac is a composer, arranger and educator. This journey is an insight into the heart and soul of Macs very own temple of music, ‘the composers workshop’.

This album is captured over four years of live recording and a brief studio top-up.

IT CAN BE NO MORE OR LESS THE SOUND OF CAPE TOWN. We hear the mist on Alibama and the wind on Too Wisdom. We float amongst the whimsical spirit of togetherness on Rosa and take inspiration of the late summer nights on Goema Goema. All in MACMUSIC poitjie van die Kaap!
